Our promise
We publish an index of how hard companies make it to cancel a subscription. It would be absurd — and we think dishonest — to bury our own cancellation behind a phone tree. So we hold ourselves to the grade we'd want to give anyone: you can cancel any paid plan at any time, yourself, in one place, and it is at least as easy as signing up was. No retention call, no chat gauntlet, no "are you sure" maze. If you ever find our cancellation harder than our sign-up, that's a bug — tell us at [email protected] and we'll fix it.
1. Subscriptions (Data & API, Monitoring, and Backer tiers)
Paid subscriptions renew automatically — monthly or annually, as you chose — until you cancel.
- Cancel anytime, self-serve. Open the billing portal (enter your email, then “Cancel subscription”) or email [email protected]. You never have to call or chat to cancel.
- When it takes effect. Cancelling stops all future charges. You keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for; at that point the plan ends and is not renewed.
- Refunds. Fees are charged in advance and are non-refundable, and we do not prorate a partial period — when you cancel you simply are not billed again and keep access through the paid term. We will always refund a charge that was a genuine error (a duplicate, a charge after a timely cancellation, or an unauthorized charge).
- Auto-renewal disclosure & reminders. Before you pay, checkout discloses the price, the billing frequency, the date of your first charge, that the plan auto-renews until you cancel, and how to cancel. We email a renewal reminder before each annual renewal, and at least once a year for monthly plans, restating your plan, the amount and frequency of charges, your renewal date, and how to cancel.
2. EU & UK consumers — your 14-day right to cancel
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a legal right to cancel a subscription within 14 days of starting it, for any reason and without penalty — in addition to the anytime cancellation above.
- How to exercise it. Use our Withdraw / Cancel form (or the control in your account, available throughout the 14-day period), reply to your receipt email, or email [email protected]. We confirm receipt immediately and refund all payments within 14 days, to your original payment method.
- Immediate access. Data & API access can be switched on right away. If, at checkout, you ask us to begin immediately during the 14-day window, you consent to that and acknowledge that if you then cancel after access has begun, we refund you minus a proportionate amount for the access you actually used up to the moment you told us. If you do not request immediate access, your service starts after the 14 days end and the full right applies.
3. Contributions & Backer support
Cancel Atlas is operated by a for-profit company. It is not a registered charity or 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions are not tax-deductible charitable donations — they are voluntary support for our independent, ad-neutral work.
- One-time contributions are generally final, because they support work already done and nothing is sold in return. But we will always reverse a charge that was a mistake, duplicate, or unauthorized — email [email protected] within 60 days and we'll refund it, no questions asked.
- Recurring Backer support renews monthly until you cancel. You can cancel any time, instantly, from your account or the link in every receipt — as easily as you started. Cancelling stops all future charges; we don't prorate the current month, and any supporter perks run to the end of it.
4. Sponsorship & advertising (businesses)
Sponsorship and advertising placements are business-to-business purchases; consumer cooling-off and withdrawal rights do not apply, and the terms are set by agreement.
- Cancellation. Either party may cancel a recurring placement on 30 days' written notice; cancellation takes effect at the end of the then-current billing term, and fees for that term remain due. Any one-time setup or creative-production fee is non-refundable once work has begun.
- If we don't deliver. If a paid placement is not delivered — extended downtime, or our removal of it — you receive, at our election, a make-good of equivalent value or a pro-rata refund of the undelivered period.
- Editorial firewall. We may decline, pause, or remove any placement at any time to protect our editorial neutrality — including where a sponsor is or becomes a company we rate, or any conflict arises with our independence. Where we remove a placement for such editorial reasons, your sole remedy is a pro-rata refund of the unused, prepaid period. Sponsorship never influences any rating or score.
- Enterprise Data & API licences are governed by their separately signed contract, not by this page.
5. How to cancel or request a refund
Fastest: the billing portal (self-serve, instant — enter your email to manage or cancel). Or email [email protected] from the address on your account and tell us what you'd like to cancel or have refunded — we acknowledge billing requests within 2 business days. See also our Terms and Contact page.
6. Changes
We may update this policy; the “last updated” date reflects the current version, and for material changes we post a prominent notice. Your existing plan keeps the cancellation and refund terms that applied when you subscribed.
