How hard is it to cancel Wealthfront?

Wealthfront scores 71/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in-app.

Last reviewed 2026-06-05 · Documented-Policy tier · grade B

Wealthfront accounts (Automated Investing and Cash) can be closed entirely online or in-app with no phone call required. For Automated Investing Accounts, users log in, select 'Transfer money', then 'Withdraw the entire account balance'; the account closes automatically once the full withdrawal is processed. There are no exit or closing fees. The 0.25% annual advisory fee is charged monthly on a daily-prorated basis and stops accruing upon closure — no pre-paid fee refund is needed since fees are never charged in advance. No notice period is required and no account pause feature exists; closure is the only option to stop advisory fee accrual.

How to cancel Wealthfront

  • Channels: online (self-serve), in-app
  • Official cancellation page: https://support.wealthfront.com/hc/en-us/articles/211007363-How-do-I-close-my-Automated-Investing-Account
  • Pause/freeze: not offered. No account pause or freeze feature is documented. Users can cancel individual automated savings transfers, but the investing account itself has no pause option — only full closure.
  • Account/data deletion: Clients with investment, brokerage, or lending accounts cannot have personal data deleted due to GLBA, SEC Rule 17a-4, and FINRA recordkeeping obligations, which preempt CCPA deletion rights for financial records. Non-client users (no funded account) may email [email protected] to request deletion. https://support.wealthfront.com/hc/en-us/sections/360009259711-Security-and-privacy

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
