How hard is it to cancel Upstash?
Upstash scores 60/100 (grade C) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US, a partially documented cancellation policy with notable gaps. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), email.
Upstash is largely usage-based (Pay-as-You-Go) plus paid plans. To stop billing you delete your databases/clusters and/or your account self-serve in the Upstash Console. Account deletion: Account > Settings > Delete Account (you must first delete all databases and clusters); per the official FAQ, after deletion all data and payment info is deleted and unrecoverable. Credit card can be removed at Account > Billing, but a replacement card must be added first. On Pay-as-You-Go you can set a max budget per instance: when monthly cost hits the budget, Upstash emails you and throttles the instance so you are not charged beyond it. No notice period, downgrade procedure, or refund/proration terms are documented in the FAQ; for billing questions Upstash directs users to [email protected]. No mobile app-store billing path is involved (web/console only).
How to cancel Upstash
- Channels: online (self-serve), email
- Official cancellation page: https://upstash.com/docs/common/account/faq
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause/freeze feature is documented. On the Pay-as-You-Go model you can set a max budget per Redis instance; when monthly cost reaches that budget Upstash emails you and throttles the instance so you are not charged beyond it, but this is throttling, not a subscription pause. To stop charges you delete the database/resource or delete the account.
- Account/data deletion: Delete account via Account > Settings > Delete Account in the Upstash Console. You must first delete all your databases and clusters. Per the FAQ: 'After you delete your account, all your data and payment information will be deleted and you will not be able to recover it.' A credit card can be removed separately from Account > Billing, but you must add a replacement card before deleting the existing one. Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights, scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
