How hard is it to cancel U-NEXT?
U-NEXT scores 77/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the JP — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in-app.
U-NEXT can be cancelled online via the U-NEXT website (Account > Contract/Payment Info > Cancel Contract) or through the relevant third-party platform (Apple App Store, Google Play). For direct web-billed accounts, cancellation takes effect immediately and access stops right away with no remaining access period. No refund or proration is offered for unused days in the billing month; a cancellation fee equivalent to one month's charge applies if you cancel in the same calendar month you signed up. There is no pause or freeze feature.
How to cancel U-NEXT
- Channels: online (self-serve), in-app
- Official cancellation page: https://help.unext.jp/guide/detail/how-to-cancel-the-contract
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or freeze option is offered. Users can only cancel (解約) the monthly plan or fully delete the account (退会). Cancelled accounts retain access to previously purchased content if account is not deleted.
- Account/data deletion: Account deletion (退会) is a separate step after cancellation (解約). All active services must be cancelled first. Deletion is irreversible and permanently removes login access, remaining points/coins, purchased video and book access, and rental rights. https://help.unext.jp/guide/detail/how-to-unsubscribe

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
