How hard is it to cancel Substack?
Substack scores 83/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in-app.
Substack subscriptions can be cancelled self-serve online at substack.com/settings or through the iOS/Android apps (Android redirects to web); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and access continues until then. Substack issues a refund for requests within 7 days of payment; requests after 7 days are at the individual publisher's discretion. Subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store are subject to Apple's own refund policy. A pause option is available, letting subscribers freeze billing for a chosen number of months before automatic resumption.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
