How hard is it to cancel Slack?
Slack scores 89/100 (grade A) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US, among the most clearly documented cancellation policies we've scored. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in_account.
A dedicated help article publishes the full click path: 'click Admin in the sidebar', 'Select Manage billing', 'From the Overview tab, select Change plan details', 'Select Downgrade to Free and decide whether your plan change will take effect immediately or on your next renewal date', then Continue to Checkout and Downgrade Slack. Notably the subscriber chooses the effective date rather than being forced to wait out the term. Unused paid time is returned as workspace credit rather than money - the Fair Billing Policy states 'Credits will be deposited to your Slack account for the unused portion of the billing period' - but that credit is explicitly not cash and does not survive leaving: 'Credits have no currency or exchange value, are non-transferable and non-refundable, and will expire following the termination of your paid Slack plan.' Downgrading also applies free-plan message, file and app limits to existing workspace history. The user-facing Terms of Service carries no cancellation clause; the documentation does the work.
How to cancel Slack
- Channels: online (self-serve), in_account
- Official cancellation page: https://slack.com/help/articles/48764458651795-Change-or-cancel-your-paid-Slack-plan
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause option; the equivalent is downgrading to the free plan, which keeps the workspace but applies message, file and app limits.
- Refund policy: https://slack.com/help/articles/218915077-Slacks-Fair-Billing-Policy
- Account/data deletion: Downgrading retains the workspace but applies free-plan message, file and app limits rather than deleting data. Full account deletion is not covered on the cited billing pages.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights, scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
