How hard is it to cancel Shutterstock?
Shutterstock scores 74/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve).
Shutterstock subscriptions are canceled online via the 'Cancel plan' module on the Plans page in account settings. Month-to-month and annual upfront plans can be canceled at any time with no fee, with access continuing until the end of the current billing period. Annual plans with monthly billing can be canceled early, but incur a fee of 50% of the remaining contract cost; the alternative is to cancel auto-renewal and let the plan expire at the end of the 12-month term. Refunds are generally not offered to US customers; EU/UK customers may receive a refund within 14 days if no downloads have been used. In May 2026, Shutterstock agreed to a $35 million FTC settlement requiring it to simplify cancellation flows and provide clearer disclosures going forward.
How to cancel Shutterstock
- Channels: online (self-serve)
- Official cancellation page: https://www.shutterstock.com/help/en/articles/10598560-how-do-i-cancel-my-shutterstock-plan
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or freeze option is documented in Shutterstock's help center. The alternatives are to cancel auto-renewal (so the plan expires at term end) or to cancel the plan outright.
- Account/data deletion: Account deletion is available at accounts.shutterstock.com/remove. Canceling a plan does not close the account; these are separate actions. Under the Contributor Terms, full data deletion can take up to 90 days, though some data may be retained for legal/compliance obligations. https://accounts.shutterstock.com/remove

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
