How hard is it to cancel Showmax?
Showmax scores 72/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the ZA, a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in-app.
Showmax (South Africa) subscribers could cancel at any time online via My Account > Manage Subscription > Cancel Plan on the website or app; those billed through carrier partners (Vodacom, MTN, etc.) had to cancel via the partner. Cancellation took effect at the end of the current monthly subscription period, with no access cut-off early and no proration. Refunds were explicitly not provided for partially-used periods except in discretionary cases such as duplicate billing, double-charging, or a cancellation request not processed with no viewing. No pause or freeze option existed. Note: Showmax shut down on 30 April 2026 and content migrated to DStv Stream.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights, scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
