How hard is it to cancel Public Mobile?
Public Mobile scores 68/100 (grade C) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the CA — a partially documented cancellation policy with notable gaps. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in-app, phone.
Public Mobile is a prepaid Canadian carrier (owned by Telus). To cancel, subscribers turn off the 'Subscribed' toggle in My Account online or in the app (or call *611), which disables auto-pay so the plan does not renew at the next 30-day cycle. Porting the number out to another carrier also immediately closes the account. There is no proration or refund for any unused portion of the current cycle — all prepaid funds are non-refundable. The account suspends on non-payment and is permanently deleted after 90 days of suspension, at which point the phone number is also released.
How to cancel Public Mobile
- Channels: online (self-serve), in-app, phone
- Official cancellation page: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/pause-your-subscription
- Pause/freeze: available — Cancelling auto-pay (toggling 'Subscribed' off in My Account or the app) effectively pauses the account at no cost. The account enters suspension and remains open for up to 90 days, during which the number is preserved. Reactivating before the 90-day deadline resets the pause window; if not reactivated within 90 days the account closes permanently and the number is lost.
- Account/data deletion: No self-serve data deletion portal. Public Mobile (a Telus brand) states in its Terms of Service that upon suspension or cancellation it has no obligation to retain voicemail, contact information, or other content and may delete it immediately. For broader personal-data deletion requests under PIPEDA, customers must contact the Telus Privacy Office ([email protected]). https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/privacy-policy

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
