How hard is it to cancel Origin Energy?
Origin Energy scores 80/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the AU — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone.
Origin residential electricity and natural-gas market plans have no exit fee and a 10 business day cooling-off period after signup during which a consumer can cancel without penalty. To move out or stop supply, the consumer closes the account through My Account or the Origin app by selecting Plans & Properties then Disconnect property, which schedules a disconnection (in some states) and a final meter read; Origin requires a minimum of three business days' notice before the move. If switching to another energy provider the consumer does not need to disconnect, as the new retailer notifies Origin and Origin then issues a final bill. The final bill covers usage to the close date and may include a distributor disconnection or special meter-read fee (typically around $8-$66, set by the distributor). No early-termination fee applies to standard residential plans.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
