Last reviewed 2026-06-06 · Documented-Policy tier · grade C

Customers can cancel via phone (133 937), the My Optus app or website (locate service > Manage Plan > Cancel Service), live chat, or in-person at an Optus store. A 30-day notice period applies; the service remains active and billable until the notice period expires. Pro-rata refunds are issued for any amounts paid in advance beyond the cancellation date, provided there are no outstanding charges. Customers on a fixed-term contract who cancel early will incur an early termination fee, and any leased equipment must be returned within 30 days to avoid additional charges.

How to cancel Optus

  • Channels: phone, online (self-serve), in-app, in person
  • Official cancellation page: https://www.optus.com.au/support/answer/cancelling_services_and_returning_equipment_1388
  • Pause/freeze: available — Service suspension available for up to 90 days at $5.50 per billing cycle (max 3 times per contract period); suspension extends the contract by the number of days suspended. Separate 'Optus Pause' feature pauses Wi-Fi access via the My Optus app (content/screen-time control, not a billing pause).
  • Account/data deletion: Australia's Privacy Act does not grant a right to erasure. Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
