How hard is it to cancel NTT Docomo?

NTT Docomo scores 74/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the JP — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), in person, phone.

Last reviewed 2026-06-06 · Documented-Policy tier · grade B

Mobile phone contracts can be cancelled online (24/7 via ドコモオンライン手続き with dAccount login) or in-store at approximately 2,400 Docomo Shop locations; phone cancellation is available only for Home 5G (not mobile). No advance notice period is required and cancellation is processed same-day or next business day. Monthly plan fees are NOT prorated — a full month's charge applies regardless of when in the month cancellation occurs, and device installment payments continue post-cancellation without the associated monthly discounts. There are no early termination fees on standard plans (contract lock-in fees were abolished in October 2019), though device balance obligations remain.

How to cancel NTT Docomo

  • Channels: online (self-serve), in person, phone
  • Official cancellation page: https://www.docomo.ne.jp/support/cancel/
  • Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or service suspension option is offered. Docomo suggests switching to a lower-cost plan (e.g., ahamo at ¥2,970/mo, or Docomo mini) as an alternative to cancellation.
  • Account/data deletion: The @docomo.ne.jp email address becomes unusable immediately upon cancellation. Docomo Cloud data stored server-side is deleted. The dAccount (digital ID) survives cancellation and can be retained or separately deleted at id.smt.docomo.ne.jp; deletion steps differ depending on whether an active Docomo line remains. https://id.smt.docomo.ne.jp/src/utility/detail_07_02.html

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
