To close a Mercury account, log in to the web dashboard (closure is not available via mobile app), go to Settings > Company Profile, scroll to the bottom, click 'Close Account', then 'Start Request'. Follow the prompts, provide a reason, and click 'Request to Close'. Prerequisites: account balance must be $0.00 across all checking, savings, and sub-accounts; all pending transactions must be settled; recurring transactions should be migrated and statements downloaded beforehand. Mercury reviews the request within 2 business days and sends a confirmation email once closed. For joint accounts, any listed owner can email [email protected]. Account closures can also be initiated via in-dashboard chat (24/7, ~5-min response) or email to [email protected]. No refund policy is documented — the platform is free-to-use (no monthly fees for the base account), so there is nothing to refund; any remaining balance must be withdrawn before closure. Paid plan subscribers ($35+/mo) are not explicitly addressed regarding proration. Terms of Use (Section 13) state the user must pay all outstanding amounts before terminating; Mercury may also terminate at its discretion with notice 'to the extent permitted by applicable law'.

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
