To close a Mercury account, log in to the web dashboard (closure is not available via mobile app), go to Settings > Company Profile, scroll to the bottom, click 'Close Account', then 'Start Request'. Follow the prompts, provide a reason, and click 'Request to Close'. Prerequisites: account balance must be $0.00 across all checking, savings, and sub-accounts; all pending transactions must be settled; recurring transactions should be migrated and statements downloaded beforehand. Mercury reviews the request within 2 business days and sends a confirmation email once closed. For joint accounts, any listed owner can email [email protected]. Account closures can also be initiated via in-dashboard chat (24/7, ~5-min response) or email to [email protected]. No refund policy is documented, the platform is free-to-use (no monthly fees for the base account), so there is nothing to refund; any remaining balance must be withdrawn before closure. Paid plan subscribers ($35+/mo) are not explicitly addressed regarding proration. Terms of Use (Section 13) state the user must pay all outstanding amounts before terminating; Mercury may also terminate at its discretion with notice 'to the extent permitted by applicable law'.

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights, scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
