How hard is it to cancel HostGator?
HostGator scores 72/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone.
HostGator hosting plans are cancelled by disabling Auto-Renew in the Customer Portal's Renewal Center; this must be done at least 15 days before the renewal date (5 days for monthly plans). Refunds are available only within the first 30 days of the initial term for shared, WordPress, VPS, and dedicated plans — no prorated refunds are issued after 30 days. Monthly-term plans, domain registrations, setup fees, and add-ons are excluded from the money-back guarantee, and a $22.99 domain fee is deducted from refunds if a free domain was included. Support via phone or live chat is available 24/7 to assist with cancellation and refund requests.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
