Direct Line UK car insurance can be cancelled via phone, online account, mobile app, WhatsApp/webchat, or written letter (PO Box 133, Swindon, SN38 6YP). A 14-day cooling-off period applies from receipt of policy documents — cancellation within this window incurs only a pro-rata charge for days covered, with no separate cancellation fee. After 14 days, a cancellation fee of approximately £50 applies plus a deduction for days already covered; no refund is issued if a claim has been made during the policy. Under UK CMA auto-renewal guidance, cancellation of auto-renewal is available online or by phone at any time.

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
