How hard is it to cancel Deutsche Telekom?
Deutsche Telekom scores 67/100 (grade C) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the DE — a partially documented cancellation policy with notable gaps. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone, postal mail.
Telekom customers can cancel online via the Kundencenter (Kündigungsbutton, mandated by §312k BGB / TKG 2021, live since 1 July 2022), by phone, or by post/fax; the online button is found in the logged-in customer portal after multiple navigation steps and has drawn user complaints about poor visibility. After expiry of the minimum contract term (typically 24 months), notice is 1 month to any date; the TKG 2021 reform abolished the old automatic 12-month renewal rule so contracts roll monthly after the initial term. Refund and proration terms are not explicitly disclosed on public help pages, leaving customers subject to standard German consumer-law proration. Mobile contracts may be suspended (Stilllegung) for up to 6 months with fees waived but contract extended accordingly; fixed-line contracts cannot be paused.
How to cancel Deutsche Telekom
- Channels: online (self-serve), phone, postal mail
- Official cancellation page: https://www.telekom.de/hilfe/vertrag-rechnung/kuendigung
- Pause/freeze: available — Mobile contracts (Mobilfunk) can be temporarily suspended (Stilllegung) for up to 6 months with no minimum suspension duration; monthly service charges are waived during the pause, but the contract term is extended by the suspension period. Fixed-line contracts cannot be truly paused — only a partial call block is possible while the monthly base fee continues.
- Account/data deletion: The Telekom-Login/account can be deleted 6 months after the end of paid services (no active contracts must remain). Contract data is retained for up to 12 months in service systems after contract end, plus statutory retention periods (up to 6 years for business-relevant documents under German commercial law). Customers can request data deletion via the Telekom contact form at telekom.de/kontakt. https://www.telekom.de/kontakt

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
