How hard is it to cancel Cohere?
Cohere scores 70/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), email.
Cohere offers a self-serve account deletion path in the dashboard: select 'Your Profile' > 'Danger Zone' tab > 'Delete my Account'. Deletion is processed automatically within ~7 days, revoking API keys and removing account data; prompts/generations auto-delete after 30 days. The Terms of Use also let you terminate 'at any time and with immediate effect' by emailing a request to delete your User ID — no notice period is required. Because the paid API is usage-based (billed monthly or at a $250 balance threshold), there is no fixed subscription to cancel; stopping API calls and/or deleting the account ends billing. Refunds: the Terms of Use state Cohere 'will not be required to issue a refund for any purchase made by you,' so no proration/refund is offered. No app-store billing applies (API/web product). Enterprise customers are covered by separate negotiated agreements with their own 30-day post-termination data-deletion commitments.
How to cancel Cohere
- Channels: online (self-serve), email
- Official cancellation page: https://cohere.com/privacy
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or freeze feature is documented. Cohere's paid API is usage-based (billed at the end of each calendar month or when the outstanding balance reaches a $250 threshold) rather than a recurring fixed subscription, so there is no plan to pause; you simply stop making API calls. Enterprise terms are governed by separate negotiated agreements.
- Account/data deletion: Self-serve: in the Cohere dashboard select 'Your Profile', navigate to the 'Danger Zone' tab, and click 'Delete my Account'. Account deletions are processed automatically within 7 days — API keys are revoked and account data (name, email, organization ID) is deleted. Deleting the account does NOT immediately delete prompts/generations; those are deleted automatically after 30 days (default Platform retention) unless exceptions apply. Additional data-deletion requests (GDPR/UK and CCPA rights) can be made by emailing [email protected]; Cohere normally responds within one month (up to three months for complex requests). https://cohere.com/privacy

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
