How hard is it to cancel CircleCI?

CircleCI scores 79/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve).

Last reviewed 2026-06-06 · Documented-Policy tier · grade B

Performance Plan subscribers can cancel self-serve via Plan > Billing in the CircleCI web app (admin access required); the account remains active and credits are usable through the end of the current billing cycle, after which the org downgrades to the Free Plan. No refunds are issued for unused credits or prepaid amounts — all amounts paid are explicitly non-refundable, non-cancelable, and non-creditable. The ToS requires 30 days written notice only for full agreement termination, but in-product cancellation has no stated notice period beyond the billing cycle. Mid-term Support Plan downgrades are not allowed; those must wait until renewal.

How to cancel CircleCI

  • Channels: online (self-serve)
  • Official cancellation page: https://support.circleci.com/hc/en-us/articles/15274990442267-Cancelling-Performance-Plan-Subscription
  • Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or freeze option is documented. Cancellation downgrades the account to the Free Plan at the end of the current billing cycle; there is no mid-cycle hold.
  • Account/data deletion: Upon termination, CircleCI is not obligated to retain user data for longer than 30 days. After that window, all data may be deleted at CircleCI's discretion and is unrecoverable. A separate self-serve account deletion flow is documented in the Support Center. https://support.circleci.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037058873-How-to-Delete-CircleCI-Account

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
