How hard is it to cancel Chegg?

Chegg scores 68/100 (grade C) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a partially documented cancellation policy with notable gaps. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone, in-app.

Chegg subscriptions can be canceled online (My Account > Orders > Cancel Subscription on desktop/laptop), by phone at 1-855-477-0177, or through the App Store/Google Play if subscribed via those platforms. Upon cancellation, access continues through the end of the current billing period with no refund or proration for unused time. Subscribers should cancel before their renewal date (at least 24 hours prior) to avoid being charged for another cycle. A pause option of up to 6 months is available as an alternative to canceling. Note: Chegg settled a $7.5M FTC enforcement action in September 2025 for historically burying cancellation links and continuing to bill consumers after cancellation attempts; the settlement order requires cancellation to be at least as easy as sign-up.

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
