How hard is it to cancel Budget Direct?
Budget Direct scores 87/100 (grade A) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the AU — among the most clearly documented cancellation policies we've scored. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone.
Budget Direct customers can cancel a car insurance policy at any time, with no notice required, by logging into their online account and selecting the policy then 'Cancel', or via live chat for support. A 21-day cooling-off period runs from the policy start or renewal date; cancelling within it with no claim made gives a full refund of premiums paid. After the cooling-off period, customers receive a pro-rata refund of the unused portion of the premium, minus a $40 early-cancellation fee (where applicable) plus government taxes and charges. Any outstanding instalments must still be paid, and refunds under $1 are not processed.

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
