How hard is it to cancel Bitwarden?
Bitwarden scores 81/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve).
Bitwarden subscriptions can be cancelled entirely online via Settings → Subscription → Cancel Subscription in the web vault; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle (account enters 'Pending cancellation' status immediately). No notice period is required. Refunds are available within 30 days of purchase by contacting support; subscriptions older than 30 days are not eligible for refunds and no proration is offered for mid-cycle cancellations. Cancelling does not delete the account or vault data — account deletion is a separate, permanent action.
How to cancel Bitwarden
- Channels: online (self-serve)
- Official cancellation page: https://bitwarden.com/help/cancel-a-subscription/
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No pause or freeze option. A 'Reinstate Subscription' button is available any time before the end of the current billing cycle if you change your mind after cancelling.
- Account/data deletion: Cancelling a subscription does NOT automatically delete the account or vault. Separate deletion is required: via Settings → My Account → Danger Zone → Delete Account (web/mobile/desktop), or without login at vault.bitwarden.com/#/recover-delete. Deletion is permanent and purges all vault data immediately. https://bitwarden.com/help/delete-your-account/

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
