How hard is it to cancel Backblaze?

Backblaze scores 81/100 (grade B) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the US — a clearly documented cancellation policy. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve).

Last reviewed 2026-06-05 · Documented-Policy tier · grade B

Cancellation is entirely self-serve online: users must log in, delete all registered computer backups, and then delete unused licenses; support staff explicitly cannot cancel on a customer's behalf. Monthly subscribers may cancel at any time but receive no refund. Annual and two-year subscribers can request a full refund within 30 days of signup; after that window, no refund is issued. There is no pause or freeze feature, and account data is permanently deleted upon account deletion.

How to cancel Backblaze

  • Channels: online (self-serve)
  • Official cancellation page: https://www.backblaze.com/company/policy/payments-and-refunds
  • Pause/freeze: not offered. Backblaze does not offer a pause or freeze option for subscriptions; cancellation is the only way to stop billing.
  • Refund policy: https://www.backblaze.com/company/policy/payments-and-refunds
  • Account/data deletion: Deleting your account is a separate, irreversible step after cancelling your subscription. Initiating account deletion immediately and permanently deletes all backup data and blocks login access. If a subscription simply lapses due to non-payment, files are eventually deleted after continued non-payment, though no specific grace-period duration is stated on the public policy page. https://www.backblaze.com/computer-backup/docs/cancel-or-delete-a-backblaze-account

Scope & fairness

This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
