How hard is it to cancel au by KDDI?
au by KDDI scores 62/100 (grade C) for how clearly it documents cancellation in the JP — a partially documented cancellation policy with notable gaps. Cancellation is available via online (self-serve), phone, in person.
au by KDDI mobile service can be cancelled online via My au (24h, effective next day if submitted after 21:10), by phone at 0077-75470 (9:00–20:00), or in person at an au Style/auショップ store. There is no proration on cancellation — the full month's fee is charged regardless of the cancellation date (proration only applies when migrating to UQ mobile or povo2.0). An early termination fee of ¥1,100 applies if the line is cancelled within the first year of activation (for contracts from October 1, 2025 onward). au ID and all associated data are permanently deleted upon au ID closure; email server data is deleted 31 days after the mobile contract ends.
How to cancel au by KDDI
- Channels: online (self-serve), phone, in person
- Official cancellation page: https://www.au.com/support/service/mobile/procedure/contract/cancel/
- Pause/freeze: not offered. No formal pause or freeze option is offered. au suggests migrating to povo2.0 (¥0/month base plan) as a low-cost alternative to full cancellation.
- Account/data deletion: Cancelling the au subscription does not automatically close the au ID. Once the au ID is separately cancelled, all registered member information and email addresses are permanently deleted and unrecoverable. Email data stored on au's servers is deleted after 31 days from mobile service cancellation (au メール持ち運び at ¥330/month can preserve email access if initiated within that window). https://www.au.com/au-id/cancel/

Scope & fairness
This is the Documented-Policy tier: it measures how clearly the cancellation policy is published (cited, dated facts), not the behavioural experience of cancelling (Verified-Flow audit pending). Every company is scored on the same five dimensions with the same published weights — scores cannot be bought or removed. It is opinion grounded in disclosed facts, and not legal advice.
